“Alexa, what should I wear?”

Daily outfit recommendations with Alexa.

Alexa will give you outfit recommendations based on the weather, your location, and preferred shopping department. Alexa then sends shoppable inspirational images matching her verbal recommendation. Learn more.

Role: Lead UX Designer – Multimodal, creating both the VUI & GUI experience

I was focused on bringing together Alexa and Fashion – innovating in this space and creating an experience that was voice first with the VUI but also took into account the visual aspects of being inspired with Fashion.

This was net new space for Alexa, creating a new program branded “Style by Alexa” for customers. The experience personalizes the outfit recommendations by matching photos to Alexa’s outfit recommendations. Each Alexa response takes into account the shopping department tied to profile preferences and local weather.

Alexa will respond to “Alexa, what should I wear?” on any Echo device. With devices with no screen that’s a voice first experience, customers will receive a notification on the Amazon Shopping app to view the inspirational images to go with Alexa’s outfit recommendation along with the products tagged to shop.

On screened devices: Echo Shows, FireTV, Fire Tablet, customers will be able to view the outfit recommendation, the weather, and inspirational images. The design’s are also built to be responsive to the different multimodal devices.

Vogue Business published an article titled “Voice-assisted styling: Amazon Alexa’s big bet” showcasing the “Alexa, what should I wear?” feature and designs.

Excerpt of the article: “Currently, anyone with an Alexa-enabled device (including smartphones with the Amazon Shopping app), can ask Alexa what to wear. Alexa makes recommendations based on the local weather and preferences like menswear or womenswear. A pop-up in the Amazon app shows images of influencers wearing suggested looks with tagged products; users can then click to buy.”
